Jake LaRavia Off Los Angeles Lakers Injury Report for Utah Jazz Game

Jake LaRavia is off the Los Angeles Lakers’ injury report for Sunday’s game against the Utah Jazz. He missed one game with a sprained right ankle. Second-year forward Adou Thiero and rookie guard Cameron Carr remain out.

LaRavia was hurt in the Lakers’ 127-105 season-opening win over the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday, Oct. 21. He suffered the injury with 5:34 remaining in the fourth quarter, appearing to roll his right ankle while moving toward the basket, and needed help from the Lakers’ medical staff.

He was first listed as questionable for Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers and was later downgraded to out. The Lakers beat the Clippers 125-117 without him and moved to 2-0.

Before Friday’s game, JJ Redick said LaRavia had planned to try to play after shootaround. “He went to the treatment room and it’s just not there,” Redick said. He added that LaRavia hoped to return Sunday or, failing that, Tuesday. Saturday’s report puts him on track for the earlier date.

Against Golden State, LaRavia scored 10 points in 18 minutes on 4-of-5 shooting, including 2-of-3 from three. Afterward, Redick called him “a winning player” whose contributions go beyond the box score.

Last season, LaRavia hit just 32.1% of his 3-point attempts after going 42.3% from that distance during the 2024-25 season. During the preseason this month, he made eight of his 15 attempts from beyond the arc. He played all 82 regular-season games in 2025-26, and Redick said “he mentioned that was one of his goals for the season,” but the missed Clippers game ended that goal for 2026-27.

His Shooting Matters More Than the Missed Game

The Lakers won comfortably without LaRavia on Friday, so his return does not fill an urgent hole. With Thiero and Carr also out, though, he is one of the few healthy forwards Redick can use.

His case for regular minutes depends on whether his outside shooting is back. His 2026-27 shooting so far is 10 threes on 18 attempts across the preseason and one regular-season game. That is encouraging, but it is too small a sample to outweigh a full season of 32.1% shooting in 2025-26.

The ankle looks like a short interruption. The bigger question is whether he keeps shooting like this.

Sunday at Utah Is the First Read on His Role

The Lakers and Jazz tip off at 2 p.m. PT on Sunday, Oct. 25, at Delta Center. The injury update doesn’t say how many minutes LaRavia will play or whether the lineup changes, so this game will be the first sign of how Redick plans to use him. The Lakers then host the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
