The Golden State Warriors lost 131-122 to the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 24 without Stephen Curry. The team ruled him out with the designation right knee injury management. The loss left Golden State 0-3 for the first time in 19 years.
The game was the second night of the Warriors’ first back-to-back of the 2026-27 season. After the Oct. 23 loss to Memphis, Curry was asked whether he would play in Phoenix. “Probably not,” Curry said, adding that he would discuss the situation with the team’s medical staff.
Golden State lost that game to the Grizzlies 111-108 after blowing a 12-point lead in the final 3:47. Curry had 24 points in 30 minutes and went 11-for-11 at the line. The 38-year-old played 21 minutes in the Oct. 21 loss to the Lakers and sat out the entire fourth quarter.
A Thin Roster Got Thinner in Phoenix
Curry was one of seven Warriors unavailable. Brandin Podziemski, Draymond Green and Al Horford were also out with back issues, and Jimmy Butler, Moses Moody and Kristaps Porziņģis remain sidelined.
Golden State started rookie Yaxel Lendeborg alongside Graham Ike, Will Richard, Gui Santos and Brandon Williams. Phoenix led 57-54 at halftime and 102-92 after three quarters.
Devin Booker scored 43 points on 17-of-25 shooting. Lendeborg had a season-high 26 points with six 3-pointers, and De’Anthony Melton added 25 on 8-of-13 shooting.
Golden State Is Protecting Curry Ahead of Its Record
The Warriors sat Curry in Phoenix even though they were 0-2 and had just blown a late lead with him on the floor. That decision puts his availability over the long season ahead of a quick start.
The plan also assumes the rest of the roster can cover his nights off, but Phoenix showed how little cover there is: Curry, Butler, Green, Horford, Podziemski, Moody and Porziņģis were all unavailable on the same night. Until more of those players return, every game Curry sits is likely to look like this one. Golden State trailed by 10 entering the fourth quarter and lost by nine.
Denver on Monday Tests Whether the Rest Was Routine
Golden State plays next on Monday, Oct. 26, at Denver. That ends the stretch of three games in four days. As of Saturday night, the team had not released its injury report for that game.
