The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Miami Heat 138-117 at Crypto.com Arena on Monday, Nov. 2, improving to 6-2. Luka Dončić had 42 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds.
Dončić shot 14 of 24 from the field, including six 3-pointers, and made 8 of 10 free throws. It was his fourth 40-point game of the season.
Austin Reaves scored 27 points and Walker Kessler added 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Lakers. Giannis Antetokounmpo had 30 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and seven turnovers for Miami, while Klay Thompson scored 19 points and Bam Adebayo had 16 points and nine rebounds.
Los Angeles led 79-72 at halftime and held Miami to 45 second-half points while scoring 59 of its own. The Lakers shot 57.3% from the field and 19 of 43 from three; the Heat shot 50.7% and 16 of 41. Miami’s two-game winning streak ended, dropping the Heat to 2-5.
A Scoring Stretch Is Carrying the Lakers’ Start
Dončić’s fourth 40-point game of the season came one night after 45 points and 15 rebounds in Sunday’s win over Toronto, on the first night of the back-to-back. That volume is arriving on consecutive nights without a visible drop in efficiency.
But the Lakers’ 6-2 start leans on it heavily. Reaves and Kessler have been complementary rather than load-bearing, which leaves the record more dependent on Dončić’s current form than the standings alone suggest.
Four of the Next Five Games Are on the Road
The Lakers play at Sacramento on Wednesday, Nov. 4, the start of a stretch with four of their next five away from Crypto.com Arena. The minutes without Dončić have already been the soft spot in this start, and a road-heavy stretch is where that tends to show.
