Stephen Curry Passes Oscar Robertson in Golden State Warriors’ Sixth Straight Win

Man in a suit in arena stands studying a stat sheet, his eyes drawn as cartoon bulging eyes.

Stephen Curry scored 29 points Thursday night, moving past Oscar Robertson for 17th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, as the Golden State Warriors beat the Miami Heat 120-100 at Chase Center for their sixth straight win. Curry reached the milestone with a 3-pointer at the 7:03 mark of the first quarter, pushing his career total to 26,711 points and passing Robertson’s 26,710.

Curry started slow, missing eight of his first ten shots for seven points in the first half. He then made 7 of 9 shots after halftime, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range, scoring 14 points in the third quarter and eight in the fourth. He finished 9-for-19 from the field and 6-for-12 from three in 28 minutes.

Golden State broke the game open with an 18-3 run in the third quarter, turning a 61-58 Miami lead into a 76-64 cushion. Yaxel Lendeborg added 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists, Draymond Green had a season-high 11 assists, and Georges Niang scored 13 points off the bench for Golden State, which improved to 6-0 since an 0-3 start to the season.

Giannis Antetokounmpo led Miami with 20 points and 14 rebounds, and Davion Mitchell added 22 points and eight assists in the loss.

A Milestone Night, Not a Statement Night

Curry’s leap up the all-time scoring chart is a product of two decades of accumulation, not anything specific to this box score, and his line here actually argues against reading too much into it. He was 2-for-10 before halftime and needed a hot third quarter against a Miami defense that had already given up 20-plus to Antetokounmpo at the other end.

The more telling detail for Golden State is that it won by 20 points on a night its best player had a quiet first half, with Lendeborg, Green and Niang all contributing without needing Curry to carry the opening two quarters. That depth, more than the scoring-list milestone, is the more repeatable asset through a six-game winning streak that began after an 0-3 start.

The Magic Visit Chase Center Saturday

Golden State hosts the Orlando Magic on Saturday night at Chase Center. Curry will carry a scoring-list climb that has now moved twice in a week into a week of the schedule with no back-to-back on it.
