Stephen Curry Scores 41 as Golden State Warriors Beat Orlando Magic in Overtime

Man in a suit in arena stands studying a stat sheet, his eyes drawn as cartoon bulging eyes.

Stephen Curry scored 41 points, adding six rebounds and six assists, as the Golden State Warriors beat the Orlando Magic 126-119 in overtime at Chase Center on Saturday. The win was Golden State’s seventh straight, pushing the team to 7-3 after an 0-3 start to the season.

Curry shot 13-of-19 from the field, including 5-of-10 from three, and made all 10 of his free throws. It was his second 40-point game of the season, after he scored 44 points in an Oct. 28 win at Minnesota, and the 77th 40-point game of his career, tying him with Oscar Robertson for the eighth-most in NBA history.

The 38-year-old also extended an NBA record with his 16th career game of 40 or more points since turning 35, ahead of LeBron James (15) and Michael Jordan (12). Curry reached 5,000 career rebounds in the same game, making him the seventh player in NBA history with at least 26,000 points, 6,000 assists and 5,000 rebounds, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

Orlando erased a 16-point halftime deficit, outscoring Golden State 37-20 in the third quarter and leading by six in the fourth. Curry scored 19 of his 41 points across the fourth quarter and overtime, hitting four field goals in the final three minutes of regulation to tie or take the lead.

Jamal Cain’s putback with two seconds left sent the game to overtime, and Wendell Carter Jr. missed two free throws with 1:15 left in the extra period that would have tied it before Curry closed the win. Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg added 23 points and eight rebounds, including a three-pointer in overtime, and Draymond Green handed out a season-high 13 assists.

A Peak That Keeps Extending, Not a One-Off

A 41-point night against a 2-7 Magic team that squandered a big lead would normally invite skepticism about how much it reveals. But this game fits a pattern established well before Saturday: a second 40-point game this season and an NBA-record 16th since turning 35 point to sustained scoring deep into an 18th season rather than an isolated hot shooting night.

The 5,000-rebound and 26,000-point milestones reached in the same game underscore how much volume and durability have accumulated around that scoring. That is the harder thing to fake.

Golden State’s Streak Meets a Healthier Opponent Monday

Golden State hosts the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday, Nov. 9, at Chase Center, looking to extend the winning streak to eight games. The next test will show whether Curry’s scoring surge holds against an opponent in better health than Orlando.
