Los Angeles Lakers List Luka Dončić Questionable vs. Detroit Pistons

The Los Angeles Lakers listed Luka Dončić as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Detroit Pistons because of low back tightness. The designation is the second back-related entry on Dončić’s injury report this season, and he is expected to be evaluated before tip-off.

Dončić missed the Oct. 28 game against the LA Clippers with a back injury. The latest questionable tag comes after a high-volume stretch: he scored 53 points on 17-for-33 shooting in Friday’s 124-118 win over the Portland Trail Blazers, the Lakers’ fourth straight. That result left Los Angeles at 8-2, the best record in the Western Conference.

Dončić is averaging 40.1 points, 7.8 rebounds and 7.7 assists through nine appearances. He has played nine of the Lakers’ 10 games.

Sunday’s 3 p.m. Pacific tip-off in Detroit is the first leg of a back-to-back, with the Lakers at the Atlanta Hawks on Monday. Walker Kessler is listed as available despite a left finger injury and has not missed a game this season. Detroit has two players ruled out: Jalen Duren with a right hamstring strain and Isaiah Joe with a right hip bruise.

A Second Back Flag in Two Weeks Is Harder to Wave Off as Routine

One back-related absence against the Clippers on Oct. 28 is a data point. A second designation 11 days later, arriving the same week Dončić is carrying the scoring load that produced a 53-point night, starts to look like a pattern rather than a one-off.

The Lakers have built their 8-2 start on an offense that runs almost entirely through him, which makes a recurring physical issue with their highest-volume scorer a larger structural risk than a single-game absence suggests. The scheduling compounds it: this is the first leg of a back-to-back, the circumstance teams most often use to manage a player’s load rather than push through discomfort.

Monday in Atlanta Is the Second Half of the Problem

A final decision on Dončić’s status is expected closer to Sunday’s tip-off. The next pressure point is Monday’s road game against the Atlanta Hawks, which will test how the Lakers manage his workload across a condensed two-night stretch whatever Sunday’s outcome.
